The Courage Space

If I could say there’s one thing that determines success, it would be courage.

Whether it’s success in your personal or professional life or in your business, one thing for certain, is that you need to have courage to move past your fears, to go beyond what you know and to deal with the uncertainty of change that exists all around us. For an individual, this means facing your fears and self doubt, embracing the change you’re in and daring to reach your full potential. For a business owner, this means being open to change, willing to adapt to internal and external forces, building a strong, innovative and agile work culture and doing whatever it takes to achieve long term sustainable outcomes. 

When you stand from a place of courage and create a space to lean in, to take risks, to put yourself out there, to open up yourself and your business to feedback and growth, to have difficult but necessary conversations and to do what’s necessary to move forward, this is what I call the Courage Space.

When I work with my clients, I create this space, this Courage Space, for them to do, be, think, feel and say exactly what they need to in order to overcome their obstacles and tap into their creativity, innovation and resources. It’s here where I also challenge my clients to see past their own limitations, to break down the walls holding them back and create possibilities they never knew were possible. Through coaching, tools and concepts, my clients learn to find their own Courage Space and live from there so they can continue to reach their full potential and experience the success and fulfilment they’re looking for.

I believe that obstacles can be an opportunity for growth and transformation and courage can be a catalyst for change. And I’m passionate about working with individuals, leaders and teams in change, helping them move forward when they feel stuck and getting them past the obstacles holding them back from being their best. As a coach, I thrive in coming alongside individuals through their growth and development, so they can live more fulfilled and purpose led lives and contribute in a positive and effective way to their lives and the organizations they serve.  And my differentiating quality is courage and how I create a space for my clients to lean into the discomfort and have courageous conversations. 

My coaching methodology, on a high level, is about helping to create more courageous individuals, leaders and teams.

My coaching methodology on a more specific level is about partnering with individuals in an in-depth process of discovery and change, that’s designed to facilitate the creation and development of personal, professional and organizational goals and develop and carry out a strategy and plan for achieving those goals. This process also helps them discover their true potential and purpose and learn to live authentically and consistently inside that every day. And the gift of coaching and personal development that they are left with is that they learn that they actually have the resources and capabilities to solve their own problems, they just needed help discovering that within themselves.

My strength with those I work with is that I won’t shy away from the discomfort that comes with change and the challenges they are facing. In fact, I will help them move toward it, embrace it and use it as an opportunity for growth and positive change. I am the catalyst in helping individuals, leaders and organizations make the change they’re wanting to make.

My Approach

In order for my clients to experience success, the key is to start with a development plan that is measurable, attainable and tailored specifically to their desired outcomes. When clients can clearly see the outcomes they want, they are more likely to do what it takes to achieve them. And so, throughout our coaching engagement, the coaching outcomes are always held as a guide and reference point.

I work in partnership with my clients and we co-create solutions and opportunities together. And when I consider and help them assess the obstacles and challenges they face, I have a systems approach, where I inquire beyond the individual into relationships, the organization they may serve and anything else that may provide more information and perspective.

As an EQi 2.0 Certified Coach, I offer all my clients the opportunity to have an EQi 2.0 Assessment and have found that it brings a valuable understanding about themselves and their Emotional Intelligence and the experience plays a key role in their personal growth. I also have a deep understanding and coaching experience in family systems and personal and inherited family trauma which offers my clients a unique opportunity to be heard and understood beyond the level of typical professional coaching services. 

What I do is help my clients move and grow through the hardest part of their change. And the goal I have for them is to leave them better off than when I found them and provide sustainable growth and learning that continues after working with me.

How Do I Measure Success?

Measuring success for my clients is done by having a clear and well-defined coaching development plan and holding that as a framework, reference point and goal post during the entire coaching engagement. The better and more well-defined the plan is, the better you can measure success when the coaching engagement has ended.

At the beginning of every coaching engagement, a critical part in my work is taking the necessary time to define what success would look like for the client.  This initial step leads us into creating a clearly defined development plan that the client will be inspired and motivated to fulfill on. In order to have a development plan where the client’s success can be measured, I include fundamental elements in every coaching engagement.

Definition of Success Criteria

Criteria that define how they’ll know they’ve been successful:

  • What will be happening in their life?
  • What will they feel?
  • What will they experience in their work/workplace?
  • What will be different?
  • What will be the impact on their relationships, team, organization and/or business objectives?

Outcomes That Are Achievable

Choosing outcomes that are achievable within the timeframe of our coaching engagement to set the client up for success.

Tangible Measurable Goals

Goals that the client can see the outcome:

  • A completed vision and business plan for the new business
  • The new business has been started and is making revenue
  • % increase in revenue
  • Knowing what the next career step is
  • Positive feedback from team members on behaviour shifts and employee engagement.

Non-tangible Measurable Goals

Goals that you can feel the outcome, ie. a shift in confidence or job satisfaction.

Built In Accountability Measures

Measures to ensure the client stays on track during the coaching engagement.

End of Engagement Wrap Up

Wrap-up session with client and sponsor (if applicable), providing an opportunity for client to evaluate, assess and observe on goals and outcomes achieved and impact on the individual from coaching.
